A lot of us when pregnant find it hard to lay on our front from very early on, so to make you feel as comfortable as possible, we recommend that you lay on your side with pillows and blankets.
Back pain is common in pregnancy, I know how painful it can be. This occurs when your muscles and joints become strained. Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you may find you've got an aching lower back. You may find towards the end of the day that the pain will get worse, as I did especially if you have been on your feet all day.
As a beauty therapist that does pregnancy massage I do not recommend for you to have any type of massage in the first 3 months (the first trimester) this is due to the high risk of miscarriage in the beginning stages of pregnancy.
Considering the benefits of pregnancy massage, self care is important especially as you prepare to give birth. So why not treat yourself throughout your pregnancy and make the most of some "me" time before the new arrival.
Or why not even have it as baby shower gift from friends or family massage
It is a general term for pressing and manipulating your skin and muscles. We typically use our hands and fingers, but may also use our forearms and elbows. It can range from light stroking to deep pressure. It all depends on what you as an individual require from the treatment and how you want to feel afterwards.
We always do a consultation at the beginning of the treatment to establish what you want to achieve from the treatment.
