The Benefits of Massage

date posted 13/10/14, Lucy

Relaxation and relief pregnancy massage -

There really is nothing like a good massage - to be able to ease all the tension that builds up from the stress and busyness in life in just 30 mins.

Massage can have many benefits mainly to relieve stress but it can have many more benefits if your expecting.

Benefits for mothers to be -

  • Reduces swelling in hands and feet

  • Lessens sciatic nerve

  • Eases muscular discomfort

  • Tones lose muscles, relaxes tense muscles

  • Helps aid relaxation

  • Increases circulation

  • Strengthens immune system

  • Helps relieve anxiety

Relaxation and Relief Full Body Massage -

Massage has been shown to decrease cortisol in the body. This allows the body to enter a relaxing rest-and-recovery mode: an effect that lingers long after the massage is over. Leaving you feeling relaxed, lower stress levels and improved mood.

Pregnancy Massage -

Pregnancy massage can include anything from full body Swedish massage a technique involving deep tissue massage to light pressure, to reflexology and cranial massage. The treatment normally lasts 1 hour for a full body or 30 minutes for a back massage.

A lot of us when pregnant find it hard to lay on our front from very early on, so to make you feel as comfortable as possible, we recommend that you lay on your side with pillows and blankets.

Back pain is common in pregnancy, I know how painful it can be. This occurs when your muscles and joints become strained. Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you may find you've got an aching lower back. You may find towards the end of the day that the pain will get worse, as I did especially if you have been on your feet all day.

As a beauty therapist that does pregnancy massage I do not recommend for you to have any type of massage in the first 3 months (the first trimester) this is due to the high risk of miscarriage in the beginning stages of pregnancy.

Considering the benefits of pregnancy massage, self care is important especially as you prepare to give birth. So why not treat yourself throughout your pregnancy and make the most of some "me" time before the new arrival.

Or why not even have it as baby shower gift from friends or family massage

It is a general term for pressing and manipulating your skin and muscles. We typically use our hands and fingers, but may also use our forearms and elbows. It can range from light stroking to deep pressure. It all depends on what you as an individual require from the treatment and how you want to feel afterwards.

We always do a consultation at the beginning of the treatment to establish what you want to achieve from the treatment.

Massage is becoming one of the most well know treatments.

Here are some of the benefits -

  • Releases toxins - improves waste removal

  • Encourages sleep

  • Improves skin tone and colour

  • Relaxes tired and sore muscles

  • Breaks down scar tissue

  • Improves digestion

Massage releases endorphins which are the body's natural feel good, so these help to create a feeling of wellbeing.

Getting a massage can do you the world of good and getting them frequently can do even more. Self care can play a huge part in how healthy you feel. So if you need a pick me up then nows the time to get booked in. Christmas is fast approaching, why not ask for a gift voucher as a gift and treat yourself to a massage.
