The word mumpreneurs conjures up images of mums fitting in home-run businesses around school runs and after school lessons. But Mum and entrepreneur Jo Bevilacqua is changing all that. Jo triumphed in the Unique Category at the Mumpreneur UK Awards on Saturday night, showing that having children does not mean the end of your career. In Jo’s case having children germinated a unique idea that has, in just over two years, grown into a successful bricks-and-mortar business.
Jo, a mother of two who lives in Whittlesey, Peterborough, runs Serenity Loves, a multi award winning hair and beauty salon with the added USP of onsite childcare facilities. A gap in the market place that she’d spotted and took full advantage of.
Jo is over the moon to have won Mumpreneur UK’s ‘2014 Unique Award’two years after launching Serenity Loves. Jo wanted to be able to give the freedom back to mothers and allow them to have some time to themselves for a bit of pampering without having to ask others to look after their children.
Serenity Loves has achieved just this and has created a community that parents feel comfortable in. Already boosting a celebrity client list, Jo gained respect and support from Caprice on meeting her at the conference after the ceremony declaring that " …Jo is an inspiration and beyond exciting."
On winning the award Jo said “I am shocked to have won the ‘2014 Unique Award’ and be recognised on a national level for my business. My vision was to offer a much-needed service to mum’s. It has taken a lot of dedication but I am delighted to have achieved this.“
She added “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients and social media followers for their constant support since the salon opened, we are very lucky to have such a loyal following, and as a small business each and every client is as important as the next.”
Jo’s achievement is to be applauded. In the face of running a home and bringing up two children she has developed, launched and grown a successful business… and all with no formal business qualifications.
She has raised the bar not just for mumpreneurs but also entrepreneurs who don’t have the additional challenges a Mum faces. With business grants for the taking there has never been a better time for budding mumpreneurs… but the bar has just been raised.
